Cross out the shapes

A grid of shapes where children cross out every one like the shape in the box. At ages 8 to 10 some shapes look very alike, such as the same arrow turned, and at 11 to 14 they look for two shapes at once. Every row has at least one shape to cross out.

Numbers and letters

Rows of numbers or similar letters to cross out what is asked. At ages 11 to 14 the rule is double: cross out a number only when it comes straight after another, which means looking at two characters at a time.

Symbol coding

A key pairs each shape with a number and children write the number under every shape in the rows. It trains sustained attention, working memory and speed, with 4, 6 or 9 shapes depending on age.

Find the same and rule paths

Find the row that matches the model among others that change a shape or the order, and follow a path through the stars, the even numbers or the multiples of 3. The path is always the only one, and the answer key draws it.

Frequently asked questions about the attention worksheets

Are these attention tests?
No. They are practice worksheets in familiar task formats, but they do not copy any standardised test and have no norms or scores. They are for practice and, at most, for seeing how a child works.
Are they suitable for children with ADHD?
They are practice worksheets like the ones used in support sessions. They are not a treatment: whoever knows the child decides what to practise. They work best in short sessions, with a sheet the child can finish.
How long should a worksheet take?
A few minutes. A small grid finished well is better than a big one left half done; you can time it and compare with the week before, without pressure.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Every worksheet comes with its answers: the shapes and characters to cross out, the numbers of the code, the matching row and the path drawn.
