9 scenes

The farm, under the sea, at home, in the park, in town, at school, in the garden, at the zoo and toys, or a different scene on each sheet. The pictures are placed somewhere new every time.

Real differences

Each difference is one change to one picture: missing, swapped, smaller, with stripes or dots, turned around or moved. No difference touches another, so they can be counted one by one.

From age 3 to grade 2

Age 3: 3 big differences; age 4: 5; age 5: 7, with pictures turned around as in a mirror; grades 1-2: 10 smaller differences, with some striped pictures the same in both pictures to mislead.

Boxes to tick

Under the pictures there is one box per difference: children tick one every time they find one and know how many are left.

Black and white

Patterns are stripes and dots, not colours, and the pictures are line drawings: they print well on any printer and can be coloured in afterwards.

Answer key

The same two pictures with every difference circled in blue, to mark at a glance or for children to check their own work.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Spot the Difference Worksheets

Which level should I choose for each age?
Level 1 is for age 3 (3 big differences), level 2 for age 4 (5), level 3 for age 5 (7) and level 4 for grades 1 and 2 (10 smaller differences). If it is hard, go down a level: finishing the sheet is better than giving up halfway.
How should children look for the differences?
In order: from left to right and top to bottom, comparing each thing in the scene with its partner in the other picture. Every time they find one, they circle it in both pictures and tick a box.
Can a difference be unclear?
No. The generator decides the differences on the data of each scene, not on the drawing: each difference is a single picture that changes in one way, big enough to see and apart from the others. Everything else is the same in both pictures.
Can I make a different sheet for each child?
Yes. Every picture pair is new: choose how many you want and press “New” to generate the exercise again. With the “Mixed” scene, each sheet comes from a different scene.
Are there more attention worksheets for young children?
Yes: visual discrimination (find the same and the odd one out in a row), mazes and dot-to-dot worksheets. You can add them to the same sheet and print them together.
How do I print the answer key?
Press Print and choose Answer key (or Worksheet and answer key): it shows both pictures with the differences circled and the boxes ticked.
