Thirteen grammar points

There is and there are, pronouns, possessives, plurals, countable and uncountable nouns, comparatives and superlatives, prepositions of place and time, can, must and should, conditionals, the passive, reported speech and relative clauses.

Four exercise types

Fill in the gap (from the word in brackets), choose the correct option, find the mistake and rewrite the sentence (in the plural, in the passive, in reported speech, joined with if or a relative pronoun).

Three levels per point

Each point follows the grades it is taught in: regular plurals in Grade 3 and irregular ones in Grade 5, the first conditional in Grade 8 and the third in Grade 10, the simple passive in Grades 8 and 9 and the continuous passive in Grade 10.

One right answer

The wrong options are wrong in that sentence: never two forms that are both right with different meanings. When an answer has two forms (mustn't and must not, who and that), the answer key gives both.

British English

Natural sentences in British English (colour, travelled, at home, in hospital), with true facts: who painted the Mona Lisa, which mountain is the highest.

Answer key

The answers in blue on the same worksheet: the gaps filled in, the right option circled, the mistake and its correction and the rewritten sentences.

Frequently Asked Questions about the ESL Grammar Worksheets

Which grades are these worksheets for?
Grades 3 to 10. Every grammar point has three levels tied to the grades it is taught in: there is and plurals in Grades 3 and 4, comparatives in Grades 5 and 6, conditionals, the passive and reported speech in Grades 7 to 10.
Are the instructions in English?
On this page, yes. The sentences are always in English; on the Spanish and Catalan pages the instructions are in Spanish or Catalan, so younger learners understand what to do.
Can there be more than one right answer?
Not in fill in the gap, choose or find the mistake: every sentence is written so that only one option fits. When an answer has equivalent forms (can't and cannot, who and that), the answer key gives them all. In rewrite the sentence, the key gives a model answer and the usual variants; contractions and full forms are equally right.
Are there verb tense exercises?
Verb tenses have their own generator: verb tenses (present and past, simple and continuous). Irregular verbs have their own worksheets too. You can add them to the same sheet.
Can I put several grammar points on one worksheet?
Yes. Add an exercise for each point (for example comparatives and prepositions of time) and print them together. You can also add an ESL reading text.
How do I print only the answer key?
Press Print and choose Answer key (or Worksheet and answer key). For new sentences with the same settings, select the exercise and press “New”.
