This free phonics worksheet generator follows a synthetic phonics progression: choose the sounds your class has been taught and every word on the sheet is decodable. Each click gives you a new A4 worksheet with an answer key.

🔠 Cumulative progression

s, a, t, p, then i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r…, the digraphs sh, ch, th, ng, the vowel digraphs and finally adjacent consonants (CVCC, CCVC).

Which grades are these worksheets for?

For Pre-K and Kindergarten (Phase 2 and 3 sounds, CVC words) and Grade 1 (vowel digraphs and adjacent consonants).

What does cumulative mean here?

When you choose a step, the sheet uses its sounds and every sound before it. Children never meet a grapheme they have not been taught.

Which phonics order do you follow?

A Letters and Sounds style order: s a t p, i n, m d, g o, c k ck, e u r, h b f ff l ll ss, then j v w x y z zz qu, sh ch th ng, ai ee igh oa oo, ar or ur ow oi er ear air and adjacent consonants.

Why are some words not in “count the sounds”?

Words with x or qu are left out, because each of those graphemes stands for two sounds and would make the count confusing.

How do I print only the answer key?

In Format & Print Options, choose “Answer key only” and click “Print / Save as PDF”.

Is any pupil data sent to a server?
