Adaptations

The habitat of each living thing and what each feature is for.

Lamarck or Darwin

Explanations to sort and the steps of natural selection to put in order.

Natural selection with data

Moths, rabbits, beetles or bacteria over the generations, with exact sums.

Evidence for evolution

Homologous and analogous structures, fossils, embryology, DNA and biogeography.

Phylogenetic trees

Random trees to find relatives and common ancestors.

Answer key

Every answer comes from the case data or the drawn tree.

Questions about the evolution worksheets

Which grades are they for?
Adaptations suit grades 6 and 7; Lamarck and Darwin, natural selection and the evidence suit grade 10 (KS4); six-species trees go up to grade 11.
Are the population numbers real?
No: they are example data worked out with a rule the sheet explains, so the results are exact. The cases themselves (peppered moths, resistant bacteria) are real examples of natural selection.
Are the species on the trees real?
They are lettered species (A, B, C…) on random trees, to practise reading trees without having to know the relationships by heart.
Which other worksheets go well with these?
How do I print only the answer key?
Click Print and choose “Answer key”, or “Worksheet and answer key” for both.
