Teaching Guide: Concentration, Moles and Stoichiometry

Chemical calculations start in Grades 8 and 9 with the concentration of solutions and the mole, and go on in Grade 10 to molarity and stoichiometry. This free generator makes worked worksheets for every step, with the relative atomic masses on the sheet and an answer key that uses conversion factors, as in class.

Concentration

In g/L, percentage by mass and by volume, the mass of solute needed and dilutions with c₁ × V₁ = c₂ × V₂.

Molar mass

From simple formulas to formulas with brackets and hydrates, with the atomic masses on the sheet.

Moles and particles

From grams to moles, molecules and atoms with the Avogadro constant, 6.02 × 10²³.

Molarity

Moles per litre from moles or grams, the mass needed to make a solution, and dilutions.

Stoichiometry

On equations balanced by the chemical equations generator: moles to moles and mass to mass.

Answer key

Each answer with its chain of conversion factors and the units crossed out, ready to mark.

Frequently asked questions about the chemistry worksheets

Which grades are they for?
Concentration in g/L is for Grade 8; percentages, molar mass and the mole for Grade 9; molarity and stoichiometry for Grade 10, and they make good revision afterwards.
Which atomic masses do they use?
The rounded values of school textbooks: H = 1, C = 12, N = 14, O = 16, Na = 23, Cl = 35.5, Ca = 40… Each sheet prints the ones it needs, and the answer key works with those values.
What is a conversion factor?
A fraction equal to 1 because its top and bottom are the same amount in different units, such as 1 mol / 18 g of water. Multiplying by it changes the unit without changing the amount, and units that appear above and below cancel out.
Where do the stoichiometry equations come from?
From the bank of the chemical equations generator, which balances them from their formulas. Level 1 prints the unbalanced equation so pupils balance it first.
Which other worksheets go well with these?
The periodic table for the elements, inorganic nomenclature for compound names and standard form for the Avogadro constant. You will find every resource in science worksheets.
How do I print only the answer key?
Click Print and choose “Answer key”, or “Worksheet and answer key” for both. You can also save it as a PDF from your browser’s print dialog.
