Operations dominoes turn mental maths into a hands-on game: to place each card, pupils solve a calculation and find its answer. This free maths domino generator makes A4 loop cards to cut out, for addition, subtraction, times tables, division or mixed operations, that always form one closed chain.

❓ Frequently asked questions about operations dominoes

How do you play operations dominoes?

Start with any card (card No. 1, for example): solve its calculation and look for the card with that answer on its left half. Place it alongside and carry on with its calculation until the chain closes.

Can a calculation match two cards?

No. All the answers are different, so every calculation has its answer on exactly one card and never on its own. That is why the chain is always unique.

How many cards can a domino have?

From 6 to 36. Some levels have fewer possible answers (addition up to 10 or division from the tables have 9), so the maximum is lower: the counter shows it.

Can I make a different domino for each group?

Yes. Add as many dominoes as you have groups: each one starts on a new sheet and has its own calculations and its own solution.

What are the small numbers on the cards for?

To find your way around: the solution gives the chain order with those numbers. Cards print shuffled, so the number says nothing about the order.

Are these the same as “I have… who has?” loop cards?

Yes, it is the same game. Each card says “I have 56” on one half and asks “Who has 7 × 8?” on the other, and the chain loops back to the start. Play it aloud as a whole class, or lay the cards out as dominoes in pairs or groups.
